- Transformer Blast Causes Major Outage in Gurugram: On 22nd May 2026, a day after India hit maximum peak of 271 GW, a technical fault at the 220 kV power substation in Sector 72, Gurugram, triggered an oil leak and blast in the transfer circuit, causing a grid collapse on Friday evening. Consumption is projected to drop 19% to 5,403 MT by 2035 and fall a further 19% to 4,400 MT by 2050, a 34% decline from 2025 levels. China drives most of the decline, with its coal use falling 37% by 2035 and nearly 60% by mid-century.
